  1. Nothing wrong with 22k Sovereigns, the roughly equivalent fractional 24k coins have a higher premium so Sovereigns are a good option if you can’t / don’t want to buy 1oz at a time (keeps premiums to a minimum).

    1. Agreed Ant – I am a fan of Sovereigns but also Britannia’s. I like to have a bit of both in my stack. I hope you are well and thanks for dropping in. All my best, Metal Head.

  2. After the previous video you did on the two coins, I’ve done more calculations today. Present price of a sovereign (competitive London dealer) is £368.80, present price of a 1/4 Oz Britannia £417.78. For the Brittannia to compete gold for gold it should only cost £396 so they’ve put on an extra £21 premium over the sovereign!
I did buy a 1/4 oz Britannia recently though, partly inspired by your earlier video and must say I love the fact it’s pure gold but from a purely investment point of view I think my next purchase will be a sovereign as more bang per buck plus it has great heritage, this despite the fact that it lacks the yellow brilliance of pure gold.

    1. Very interesting Sir. Perhaps I should make an updated video comparing premiums as the one I made is almost a year old now? Hope you are well and all my best, Metal Head.

    2. @Metal Head Thanks! Talking about these things can seem a bit geeky but actually if it can save folks money then why not I guess! Another price/premium comparison video would be great at some point. 🙂

  3. I like the 24k gold Britannias. I have more of those than gold eagles and I live in the US. I like silver, gold and platinum Britannias. To me they’re such great looking coins.

  4. I’m not sure about the import of 22/24 k gold to the US, I know that Britannias in both gold and silver are a lot cheaper for us than gold or silver eagles, I think they’re about 5%-7% over spot for Britannias compared to a very heavy premium on eagles over here. I’d much rather have the Britannias any day and my stack reflects that heavily. Spot price for silver here in the US is low $19 per oz and a silver eagle will cost you $35-$40 for an oz, whereas I can get a silver Britannia for about $23. Plus they’re a beautiful coin and my favorite bullion to stack

    1. That’s very interesting Jeremy on the Britannias being cheaper relative to your local coins. Especially given the transportation costs I would imagine need to be factored in. I wasn’t aware that was the situation over there in the States. Hope you are well Sir! All my best, Metal Head.

    2. @Metal Head yes they are quite a bit more expensive. I understand that you all in the UK have extraordinary tax or something on the purchase of silver. I’ve read that many in the UK stack gold because of it. It is odd that Britannias, Philharmonics and Kangaroos are so much cheaper here than our own national bullion being the eagle. We can buy silver rounds a little cheaper than Britannias but only a dollar or two. My family came to the states back in the late 1600s to early 1700s from Yorkshire. Here in the Appalachian Mountains area we have strong ties to the UK. Biggest majority of families here are Scots Irish, our old traditions are very much tied to the UK. Perhaps that’s the strong desire for the Britannias. They are the cheapest national backed bullion for us and honestly I think the Britannia is by far the most attractive coin of all. The multiple security features make them a most trusted coin to us here in the states. That’s why I have been focusing on Britannias in both gold and silver. We don’t have a tax on our own bullion per say, but the premium on both silver and gold eagles in all functionality may as well be a tax. They just call it a premium. If I remember correctly yours is a capital gains silver tax of some sort. I’ve read a little about it but not educated by anyone who is actually over there. I enjoy talking to fellow stackers and especially those in other countries. I wish you well on your stacking endeavor, I enjoy your channel and will suggest to my stacking friends that they subscribe to your channel. Happy Stacking!!!

  5. Thanks so much MH, I was thinking on this recently and this video is spot on for helping me make some informed decisions!

  6. 22k gold bullion is taxed here in Australia. So I stay away from it. I love the look of sovs and would stack if it was taxed free.

    1. Ahh very interesting and thanks for letting the other subscribers and I know! I had no idea that was the case down under! I hope you are well Sir. All my best, Metal Head.

  7. Your vid popped up in my feed so came by to check you out. Great info shared. I dun mind both 22k (916) or 24k (999), whichever I can find at the lowest premiums are good for me! Thanks for sharing. Liked & Subbed 👍🏻👍🏻😊
